The James M. Bennett High School Choral Department will present “A Hip Holiday!” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12 in the James M. Bennett High School Auditorium. The performance is a tribute to the jazz influenced holiday pop music composed in the 1930s and '40s, which continued to influence the holiday music industry for decades and are still popular today. The evening will begin with selections from the Intermediate Choir including "Holiday", "Light the Menorah" and a medley of familiar carols. The Concert Choir will perform a variety of jazz arrangements to include "Cool Yule" in the style of Louis Armstrong, "You're All I Want for Christmas" as performed by Bing Crosby, and "Linus and Lucy" from A Charlie Brown Christmas. Other traditional selections arranged with a jazz influence include "Silent Night" in German as performed by New York Voices, "We Three Kings" featuring our tenors and basses, and "Coventry Carol" a traditional English carol dating from the 16th century. The evening will conclude by combining more than 100 voices to perform a choral arrangement of “Sleigh Ride” true to the original winter pop classic by Leroy Anderson. Admission is free and open to the public. 410-677-5141
