GUIDELINES
The following will help each choir member to be safe, develop character, and make great music as well as be part of a fabulous choir. The key thing for everyone to remember is RESPECT. If you show respect for others, yourself, and property, all rules are covered. Below are some of the ways each student can be respectful:
Take care of personal business i.e. getting a drink, band aid, tissue, sharpening a pencil or going to the restroom before choir starts and come to rehearsal each day prepared to work
For your safety, remove any gum or other non-medical object in the mouth before choir
Place non-choir materials in the designated places
Stay away from the riser rails, piano, white boards, other student’s materials, computer and other electronic equipment
Get your music in order and do any assignments listed on the board
If you are too ill to sing but not too ill to be in school, the conductor must be notified before the rehearsal and you will be expected to do all activities that can be done safely i.e. listen to the conductor, follow along in the music and do any written work
Follow the conductor, listen to directions and no talking without permission
Raise your hand if you have an urgent question and wait to be called; other questions are important but they should be asked at designated times such as before or after rehearsal or during a question and answer time
Due to the size of each choir, if you have a lengthy concern, please make an appointment with the conductor or write a note or email
Stand or sit using a healthy posture
Sing heartily and give your best effort
Support your choir-team members; never make fun of anyone’s singing
Be polite to everyone even if he or she makes a mistake; this includes the conductor
Hold your music so you can see the conductor and the music
Take care of the music, chairs, risers, and the other choir materials; you are responsible for your assigned materials
Drink water without disrupting your choir or harming the choir materials
If you are faint or dizzy, sit down immediately
If you are nauseous, go directly to the wastebasket, then the restroom; someone will check on you shortly
If you start to bleed, get the first-aid kit and take care of your needs
If you need to leave during choir to see the nurse or you have a pass, fill out the Choir Room Red Pass; bring it to the conductor for authorization
At the end of each rehearsal, clean your area, put your music in your folder and put it in the correct bin, put your chair in its correct spot
Wait in the choir room until the conductor dismisses you
GRADING: Classroom and Performance Participation
To earn points for classroom participation, each student must be on time and be a contributing member to each rehearsal. Unexcused absences will result in 0 points for the missed class period or performance. Students that have an excused absence should contact the conductor to get the make-up work.
Full points can be earned for each performance if the student is on time for the warm-up, is dressed accordingly and behaves appropriately as a performer and audience member during the concert.
