Audition Instructions
1 - Song of Your Choice OR the JMB “Alma Mater”
Record a video of yourself singing 30 seconds from a song of your choosing. You may sing a cappella (without accompaniment) or with an instrumental only backing track. Or, you may choose to sing your voice part of the JMB “Alma Mater” along with the audio file provided. ★ When you begin, say in a clear projected voice: “My name is ______________.” ★ Consider your volume, diction, tone quality, breath support, intonation and phrasing! ★ Sing with confidence like you are performing your favorite song as a solo at our concert! |
2 - Sight Reading
Each exercise is at Level 3 according to the MMEA State Festival High School Levels. Complete the rhythmic example first, followed by the melodic example, on the same recording. ★ When you begin, say in a clear projected voice: “My name is _______________.” ★ For the rhythmic example, set your tempo by counting one full measure (1, 2, 3, 4). ★ For the melodic example, play the audio file “Audition Sight Reading” to hear the scale and tonic triad (do-mi-sol-mi-do-sol-do). You may sing along and then begin the example. |
3 - Google Form
Once you have recorded your videos with the proper backing tracks, you will have the option to submit your videos separately in the last section on this Google Form. ★ Please complete all required fields in this Audition Form. |
THANK YOU & GOOD LUCK!
About the JMB Choirs:
The JMB Choirs provide several ensembles designed to fit the needs of all students interested in singing. Our honors ensembles are considered a long term, multi-year commitment and students receive one honors credit per year. Auditions are designed not to exclude students, but to place them in the appropriate developmental ensemble so that we can best encourage your continued musical growth. Auditions are not required but are highly encouraged for all singers. You may enter the choir program by simply enrolling as all students interested in singing are allowed in JMB Choirs with or without an evaluation; however, any student without an evaluation will be placed in Intermediate Choir.
Available ensembles: SR Level 3+ - Honors - Concert Choir (auditioned mixed ensemble); SR Level 3 - Honors - Treble Ensemble (auditioned treble ensemble, as scheduling permits); SR Level 2 - Intermediate Choir (mixed ensemble).
